ENGLISH
The English course is designed to develop student’s skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing. It involves students using language effectively for various social and personal purposes and audiences. Students learn about the nature and use of language, including the forms it takes in literature and the mass media.
MATHEMATICS
The aim of Mathematics in Year 8 is twofold - the development of understandings about Number and Space and the development of cognitive ways of operating with those understandings.
SCIENCE
Students study the many components of this subject Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Earth Science. Students develop practical applications of these fields of science in real life situations. A wide variety of skills are developed involving communication techniques, practical laboratory experience and writing of practical reports.
INQUIRY
This subject combines the disciplines of Maths and Science. (One teacher)
INVESTIGATIONS
This subject combines the disciplines of English and Social and Cultural Studies. (One teacher)
HEALTH/PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RELATIONSHIPS
In this subject, students will commence study from the new Syllabus. It is an exciting format, which focuses on improving three aspects of human development.
An understanding of the body systems, health issues, food nutrition and hygiene. Cooking sessions are included. The practical components of the course develop the student’s physical abilities through involvement in team games, athletics, and a comprehensive aquatics program. The social development of the students through units which focus on gender equity, communication and drug education.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES (INCLUDING LOTE)
This course demonstrates how people and their way of life, their organisations and institutions interact with their environment. This is achieved through emphasis on studies of the physical world; a historical perspective on how people have adapted and developed their lifestyles; citizenship studies and how people have organised themselves socially. Thestudy of Indonesian offers the students an insight into the language and culture of another country. This study offers an interesting contrast to our own Australian way of life.
THE ARTS
This subject offers students an introduction to the visual and performingarts subjects (art, music, drama and dance). Students work on developing skills by completing thematic units.
TECHNOLOGY AND COMPUTING
Components of Manual Arts, Home Economics and Computing are integrated into an interesting course in response to societyâ€s changing emphasis on technology. Manual Arts introduces students to a study of timber and plastic products and Graphics. Students will study Sewingand machinery use. Students will also learn the fundamentals of PersonalComputing skills which are so important in future subjects.
SPORT
Students will be involved in weekly sporting activities.
PASTORAL CARE
Students will have pastoral care lessons weekly with their pastoral care teacher.
