The subjects offered in Years 11 and 12 for the Senior Certificate fall into the above 2 categories:
Authority Subjects: These are used to determine offers for tertiary entrance (i.e. universities, university colleges and some TAFE courses). They are reasonably difficult subjects so if students can not achieve soundly in a Year 10 subject, then they will probably find the equivalent Board subject in Year 11 quite difficult.
Authority Registered / Study Area Specifications: These subjects appear on the Senior Certificate but do not contribute to tertiary entrance. Students not intending to go to university should consider choosing some of these subjects because they usually have a greater practical component and less theory. They may serve as a useful introduction to, and carry credit towards, some TAFE courses or apprenticeships. They are useful for many employment aspects. Through these subjects students can undertake structured industry placement and gain on the job competencies.
